Neighbourhood

Beltline

Last updated: 2026-06-15

Beltline is a high-density inner-city community directly south of downtown Calgary. It's Calgary's most densely built neighbourhood — a mix of high-rise condos, apartment towers, and street-level retail — and it's home to the 17th Avenue SW and 4th Street SW commercial strips, with a large concentration of restaurants, cafes, and bars.

Getting around

Beltline is extremely walkable, with a Walk Score in the low-to-mid 90s as of 2025 research, and strong cycling infrastructure. Several C-Train stations sit within walking distance — Victoria Park/Stampede, City Hall, and 1st Street SW — served by the Red and Blue lines. By car it's roughly 15–20 minutes to the Trans-Canada / Crowchild for trips west.

For families

Green space is more limited here than in lower-density communities, but the area includes Central Memorial Park, Tomkins Park, and the grounds at Stampede Park, plus grocery options throughout. It's a busier, nightlife-heavy setting, so it's worth visiting at different times of day; the eastern edge near 1st Street tends to be quieter.
